Finding Accommodation

Finding a place to stay for Euro 2024 can be tricky – and expensive. Luckily, we’ve got a few tips to help you find accommodation.

  • Consider Nearby Cities and Towns: While staying directly in host cities may come with higher costs and limited availability, neighboring areas often offer more affordable lodging options without sacrificing proximity to the action.
  • Explore Alternative Accommodation: Consider alternative accommodation options such as guesthouses, hostels, or vacation rentals, which may offer more affordable rates compared to traditional hotels. Websites and platforms dedicated to short-term rentals often provide a variety of choices near popular tourist attractions and stadiums.
  • Be Flexible: We have this point in all of our travel guides – because it’s super helpful! Consider arriving a few days before or staying after the tournament dates to explore the host cities and potentially find more affordable options.
  • Share Accommodations: If traveling with friends or fellow football fans, consider sharing accommodation costs by booking larger rooms or rental properties that can accommodate multiple guests. Splitting expenses can significantly reduce individual costs while still providing comfortable lodging.
  • Look For Special Offers: Keep an eye out for special offers, promotions, or package deals offered by hotels and accommodation providers specifically for Euro 2024 attendees. These may include discounted rates, complimentary amenities, or added benefits for booking directly through the hotel’s website or partner platforms.

Transport During Euro 2024

Getting to and from the stadiums is one thing – but moving around Germany during this time can be tricky in general because of the amount of tourists.

Here are some tips to help you get around a bit easier:

  • Use Public Transport: German public transport is about as efficient as public transport gets. Take advantage of the public transportation network, including trains, trams, buses, and metros to travel between cities and navigate within host cities.
  • Stay Updated: Keep yourself updated on transportation schedules, route changes, and any service disruptions during Euro 2024. Check the official websites or apps of local transportation providers for real-time information and updates.
  • Explore Transportation Options: Germany offers various transportation choices to suit different needs and budgets. Trains are fast and convenient for city-to-city travel, while buses, trams, and rental cars provide flexibility for exploring smaller towns. Ridesharing and bike rentals offer eco-friendly options for short distances within cities. Research your options ahead of time to find the best fit for your Euro 2024 travel plans.

Packing For Your Trip To Germany

Packing for Euro 2024 requires careful consideration to ensure you have everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Here are some essential items to include in your packing list:

  • Weather-Appropriate Clothing: Germany’s weather can be variable, so pack layers to accommodate temperature fluctuations. Bring lightweight clothing for warmer days and sweaters or jackets for cooler evenings. A waterproof jacket or umbrella is also advisable, especially if you’re attending outdoor matches.
  • Comfortable Shoes: Expect to do a lot of walking, especially in stadium precincts and city centers. Pack comfortable, sturdy shoes suitable for walking long distances and standing for extended periods.
  • Travel Documents: Don’t forget to bring your passport, visa (if required), and any other necessary travel documents. Make copies of important documents and keep them in a separate location from the originals for backup.
  • Physical Currency: While credit cards are widely accepted, it’s always handy to have some cash on hand for small purchases, public transportation, and tipping.
  • Electronics and Chargers: Bring your smartphone, camera, and any other electronic devices you’ll need during your trip. Don’t forget to pack chargers, adapters, and power banks to keep your devices powered up while on the go.
  • Travel-Sized Toiletries: Opt for travel-sized toiletries to save space in your luggage. Remember to include items like toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
  • Travel Adapter: Germany uses the Europlug Type C and Type F electrical outlets, so make sure to bring a suitable travel adapter if your devices have different plug types.
  • Daypack or Backpack: Bring a lightweight daypack or backpack to carry your essentials while exploring the cities or attending matches. Look for one with secure compartments to keep your belongings safe.

Extra Tips

The points above cover just about everything you need to know. But here are some extras to make doubly sure you’ve got everything covered.

  • Check Your Tickets: To avoid scams and ensure the validity of your Euro 2024 tickets, only purchase from authorized sellers such as UEFA’s official ticketing website or authorized resellers. Be cautious of third-party websites or individuals offering tickets at unusually low prices, as they may be counterfeit or fraudulent.
  • Stay Informed About Security Measures: Stay informed about security measures and regulations implemented at stadiums and match venues. Be prepared for bag checks, security screenings, and other measures to ensure the safety of attendees. Arrive early to allow sufficient time for security procedures before entering the stadium.
  • Be Mindful of Pickpockets: Be vigilant and aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas such as stadiums, public transportation, and tourist attractions. Keep your valuables secure and avoid carrying large amounts of cash or displaying expensive belongings. We recommend keeping a lock on your backpack when you’re out and about.
  • Stay Connected: If you’re traveling with others, you should keep your phone charged in case you lose people. It’s also a good idea to establish meeting points in case you can’t get hold of somebody.
  • Stay Hydrated: Maintain good hydration and get plenty of rest during your trip to stay healthy and energized. Take breaks when needed, especially during long days of sightseeing or attending matches, and listen to your body’s signals.
